What is a slug and how do I change it?

The slug is your personal URL handle on LACOP. It determines where your portfolio is reachable.

Examples

If your slug is aria-nakamura, your portfolio is reachable at:

• lacop.app/aria-nakamura
• aria-nakamura.lacop.site
• (Pro+) aria-nakamura.com (if you connect a custom domain)

How to change it

1. Open Profile (/dashboard/profile)
2. Find the "Slug" or "Portfolio URL" field
3. Change the text
4. Save

Slug rules

• Only lowercase letters (a-z)
• Numbers (0-9)
• Hyphens (-) to separate
• Max 60 characters
• No umlauts, spaces, or special characters
• Unique — if the slug is taken, you're asked to pick another

Good slugs

• ✅ aria-nakamura
• ✅ maria-photography
• ✅ studio-lumen
• ✅ lisa2026

Bad slugs

• ❌ Aria Nakamura (space, uppercase)
• ❌ müller-foto (umlaut)
• ❌ me! (special char)
• ❌ user12345 (meaningless)

⚠️ Important: links break

When you change your slug:

• Old links stop working — e.g. in your Instagram bio
• Google search results show the old URL until Google re-indexes (can take weeks)
• Saved bookmarks lead nowhere
• Printed business cards / flyers need reprinting

Think twice before changing the slug if your portfolio is already linked or promoted.

When does it make sense?

✅ Good reasons:

• Typo in the original slug
• New stage name
• Rebranding
• Too long or impractical

❌ Bad reasons:

• "Looks better another way" — not for established portfolios
• Impulse — take your time

After the change

• Update all links — Instagram bio, business card, email signature
• Tell important contacts
• Wait — Google needs 2-4 weeks to re-index
