How do I set the shooting date of a photo?
· The edit panel has a date picker for the shooting date.
How do I set the shooting date of a photo?
The shooting date helps you sort your photos chronologically and is useful for portfolios that group work by year.
How to do it
- Open Photos (
/dashboard/media) - Click a photo
- In the edit panel find the "Shooting date" field (date picker)
- Pick the date from the calendar
- Click "Save"
Why a dedicated field?
The upload date is when you uploaded the photo — that's often not the shooting date. If you upload a 2022 photo today, you want 2022 as the shooting date, not today.
What happens with the date?
- Sorting: You can sort your photos by date
- Portfolio display: Depending on theme the year is shown under the photo
- SEO: Google likes chronological structures
- Overview: You keep track of when what was created
What if I don't know the date?
Leave the field empty — then the upload date is used (fallback). Or estimate a rough date (e.g. always the 1st of the month).
Automatic date from EXIF?
Currently LACOP does not automatically read shooting date from your camera's EXIF data. You fill the field manually. EXIF auto-import is planned.
Tip: consistency
If you maintain portfolios you should either date all photos or none. Mixed looks unprofessional on the public portfolio.
