What are the password requirements?

LACOP takes security seriously. Your password must be strong — we have clear minimum requirements.

The rules

• ✅ At least 12 characters long
• ✅ At least 1 uppercase letter (A-Z)
• ✅ At least 1 lowercase letter (a-z)
• ✅ At least 1 digit (0-9)

Special characters are allowed but not required.

Why so strict?

12 character minimum

Shorter passwords can be cracked in seconds with modern hardware today. 12 characters is the lower bound for security in 2026.

Mix of character types

Dramatically increases the "search space" for attackers. A 12-digit number-only password has only 10^12 combinations. With upper+lower+digit: 62^12 ≈ 3.2 × 10^21 — billions of times harder.

Tips for strong passwords

1. Passphrase instead of password

Three random words with numbers between:

• Cat7Cloud3Car
• Apple!Rain8Sea

Easy to remember, hard to crack.

2. Password manager

We always recommend a password manager:

• Bitwarden (free, open source)
• 1Password (paid, best UX)
• iCloud Passwords (built into iPhone/Mac)
• Apple Passwords (built into iOS 18+)

The manager generates random passwords (e.g. kR9#mZ2wP$8xNq4L) and remembers them for you.

3. Never reuse

Each account its own password. If one service is hacked, your LACOP stays safe.

What if I can't remember?

Get a password manager — that's the answer. Humans are bad at remembering 50+ complex passwords.

Is the password stored somewhere?

Only hashed (bcrypt) — we never see it in plaintext. Even if our DB leaked, your password wouldn't be directly readable.
